Fighting couple leave scores homeless after setting their house on fire

A frame filled incident unfolded in Laezonia, north of Johannesburg, on Friday night as a fire engulfed cottages on a smallholding, leaving several homes destroyed and two individuals critically injured.

The harrowing event, shrouded in speculation, was reportedly sparked by a lover’s quarrel that escalated into a devastating inferno.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire erupted following a domestic dispute between a woman returning home intoxicated and her elderly husband.

Allegedly, the woman unleashed a horrific attack on her partner, dousing him with petrol and igniting him while he was seated watching television.

The ensuing flames quickly spread, engulfing their residence and neighboring cottages due to their close proximity.

Describing the chaotic scene, a resident recounted, “Late on Friday night, a woman arrived home from a night out…attacked her elderly husband…doused her partner with petrol and set him alight.”

The rapid escalation of events resulted in a catastrophic chain reaction, leading to significant property damage and tragic consequences.

Responding swiftly to the emergency, the non-profit ambulance service CERT detailed the rescue efforts, stating, “Two individuals were rescued from the flames…transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition due to serious burns.”

Despite valiant attempts to save lives, the fire claimed the lives of cherished pets and left behind a trail of destruction.

Reflecting on the collateral damage inflicted by the blaze, it became evident that at least two other families bore the brunt of the alleged violent domestic incident.
