214 Killers arrested in KZN over festive season
Throughout December 2023, a busy festive season, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police successfully arrested 10,622 suspects across various crime categories.
Among these arrests, 3,355 suspects were apprehended for contact crimes, including 214 for murder and 196 for attempted murder.
The crackdown on robberies, encompassing business and house robberies, crimes with aggravating circumstances, and carjacking, led to the arrest of 173 suspects.
214 murderers arrested, firearms and ammunition recovered
In this process, 282 firearms, including 11 rifles and 12 homemade firearms, were confiscated, along with the recovery of over 2,400 rounds of ammunition.
Prioritizing the safety of women and children, 243 suspects were removed from society due to their alleged involvement in rape and sexual assault cases.

Addressing the link between alcohol consumption and assault, 1,669 suspects were arrested for assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, and an additional 625 were apprehended for common assault. Another 739 individuals faced charges related to illegal dealing and distribution of liquor.
Collaboration between community structures and private crime prevention partners proved effective in combatting property-related crimes, resulting in the arrest of 366 suspects for burglaries, theft from and of motor vehicles, and stock theft.
More positive results
The increased police visibility on roads yielded positive results, with 835 individuals arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Additionally, 1,323 suspects were apprehended for drug-related crimes, and various dangerous weapons, including 609 knives, 11 axes, and 19 pangas, were confiscated.
Ongoing police operations, supported by community structures and the E2 Project partners, aim to curb criminal activities and promote peace and stability within communities in KwaZulu-Natal.
