Dirty cops in booze heist: Mum accuses cops of stealing alcohol worth R7,500 from her house

A mother in claims that corrupt police officers nearly ruined her son’s initiation celebration by confiscating and stealing R7500 worth of alcohol.

Julian Davids, 34, has now laid criminal charges against the police officers and is demanding an investigation into their alleged crimes.

Davids explains that she had been saving for months to buy the alcohol for her son’s initiation celebration.

“In total, I bought different alcohol that came to R7500.”

However, when the police officers confiscated the alcohol, she was forced to borrow money in order to replace it.

Davids further explains that her mother was present at the scene and called her to inform her of the situation.

Davids arrived at the scene and showed the police officers the receipts for the alcohol, but they refused to listen.

Instead, they arrested her mother, Joeleen Slingers, 56, and charged her with dealing in liquor. Slingers was released hours later on a R1000 fine and is due to appear in court this month.

After reporting the incident to the police station, Davids discovered that the expensive alcohol, such as Smirnoff and Viceroy, had been stolen, while the cheaper alcohol had been booked into evidence.

The police told Davids to approach the court to have the alcohol returned, but she feared that it would not be returned in time for the boys’ initiation celebration.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, confirmed that the Kraaifontein police are investigating the theft case.

He stated, “The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.”

No one has been arrested and the booze remains missing.
