The University of Machakos is making headlines as it prepares to launch a Witchcraft Degree, becoming only the second institution in the world to offer such a program.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, in a recent statement, expressed his excitement about the course and the potential it holds for the students and the community.
“We have a lot of indigenous expertise in the greater Machakos County that can be harnessed for the benefit of society, and this is the first step towards incorporating this knowledge,” said the Vice-Chancellor.
“We hope that this course will help young people and the younger generation so that valuable historical and cultural knowledge is not missed.”
The Witchcraft Degree, which is set to begin in April 2024, will be conducted under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and is subject to approval by the University Education Board.
The course will span four years and will feature lecturers from various parts of the world, including Kenya, Zanzibar, Haiti, and Mexico.
The program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of witchcraft, exploring different approaches and perspectives. It will be a residential course, allowing students to fully immerse themselves in the subject matter.
The university has also taken into consideration the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and has planned for evening classes to ensure the safety of both students and staff.
