32 illegal foreign nationals arrested and deported in Limpopo

Thirty-two illegal foreign nationals were arrested across various locations, including border points within Limpopo’s five districts, such as the Beitbridge Port of Entry. Colonel Malesela Ledwaba reported that these individuals were detained from Saturday night until early Sunday morning for violating the Immigration Act.

They appeared before multiple Magistrate’s Courts and were subsequently deported by Immigration Officers from the Department of Home Affairs.

According to the Citizen, in addition to these arrests, police apprehended several suspects for various other offenses. These offenses included illegal mining of precious minerals, possession of prohibited firearms, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of illicit drugs, theft of firearms, and further violations of the Immigration Act.

One arrest involved 53-year-old Thomas Sibuyi, who appeared briefly before the Nkowa Nkowa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for alleged illegal mining. Sibuyi was apprehended at Letsitele, outside Tzaneen in the Mopani District, where he was found digging and packaging precious minerals at an illegal mining site.

In another case, 41-year-old Danial Ibeto, a foreign national, was arrested for alleged possession of illicit drugs, including crystal meth, rock, and cocaine. He was detained at his residence in Mokopane, Waterberg District. Ibeto appeared in court on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, and his case was postponed.
