This multidisciplinary initiative involves specialized units that work tirelessly to reclaim areas from illegal miners through frequent disruptive operations targeting their activities.

The efforts include combating crimes such as robberies, kidnappings, trespassing, illegal possession of stolen goods, unlicensed firearms, and possession of gold-bearing material. Regular stop-and-searches, vehicle checkpoints, ATM inspections, and intelligence-driven responses help maintain safety and order.

Between April 22 and April 29, 2024, authorities arrested over 122 illegal immigrants for offenses including possession of gold-bearing material, drug trafficking, and illegal mining.

Operation Vala Umgodi is ongoing, with the arrested suspects set to appear in court according to their respective charges.
