12 illegal undocumented Lesotho nationals arrested for illegal mining
On Thursday, March 14, 2024, during routine operations, members of Operation Vala Umgodi encountered a blue Mazda bakkie with six individuals.
The vehicle was loaded with 11 bags suspected to contain diamond-bearing gravel and mining tools. All six suspects, aged between 22 and 37, were promptly arrested for engaging in illegal mining, and the bakkie was seized.
Additionally, the operation resulted in the arrest of 12 undocumented Lesotho Nationals and two South Africans, aged between 22 and 40, for involvement in illegal mining activities.
Alongside these arrests, law enforcement confiscated a Toyota bakkie and various mining tools believed to have been used in the illegal operations.
The police are committed to continuing their proactive efforts to combat illegal mining and associated crimes in an the targeted area.
