Zimbabwean man raped an underage girl days after his pregnant wife went back home to give birth
24-year-old Thandani Hadebe, a herdboy from Lupane village in Zimbabwe but based in Botswana, has been remanded in custody on charges of defilement for allegedly sleeping with a 17-year-old girl.
The Voice reports that the incident came to light when the teenager, who had been missing from home for some time, was discovered at Hadebe’s place, the Sepalola cattle post near Tonota.
Hadebe, whose heavily pregnant wife had recently left the country to prepare for the birth of their child, found himself in the midst of a legal battle.
Initially arrested for entering the country illegally, a second charge of defilement was added when he appeared before the Francistown Magistrate Court.
State Prosecutor Paphidzo Kuda argued for Hadebe to be remanded in custody, citing concerns that he might flee the country if granted bail.
“We plead that we be given time to collect all the statements from the witnesses. With that, I plead that the accused person be remanded until the completion of this matter,” Kuda stated during the court proceedings.
In a solemn moment in court, when asked if he had anything to say in his defense, Hadebe responded with a heavy sigh and admitted he had nothing to offer.
Following this, the Magistrate granted the prosecution’s request and remanded Hadebe in custody pending further investigations.
