Woman, 32, dies in a strange accident at a Gqeberha harbour

A 32-year-old woman who worked at the harbour in Gqeberha tragically drowned in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg reported that the woman, who worked at the vehicle terminal, was driving a Ford Ranger onto a vessel when she suddenly accelerated.

According to witnesses, the vehicle then struck a barrier and ended up in the water. Unfortunately, the woman was unable to exit the vehicle, which submerged underwater.

Her body was subsequently retrieved and taken to the mortuary. The victim’s name will be released once her family has been informed of the incident.

Police divers and harbour authorities are currently working to retrieve the vehicle from the ocean.
