Widow gunned down two days after funeral

The widow of an allegedly criminal chief has been shot dead. The late Chief Clyde Mnisi’s widow has been killed 2 days after she spoke at her husband’s funeral.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) management in Mpumalanga has strongly condemned the fatal shooting of the widow of the late Chief Clyde Mnisi, Charlene Felicity Mathews (30). She was gunned down in the early hours of Tuesday, 04 April 2023 around 01:10. Therefore a case of murder with two counts of attempted murder is being investigated by the police in Calcutta.

Chief’s widow gets killed

The police at Calcutta were called to a shooting incident at the residential place of the late Chief. Upon arrival, they found the lifeless body of the woman. She had multiple gunshot wounds on the head and two other males identified as family members also sustained gunshot wounds after being shot. The two victims were taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Sadly the female victim was certified dead by the paramedics who attended to the scene.

A preliminary investigation by the police has since revealed that armed suspect(s) somehow got into the house. They shot at the three victims and then fled the scene.  A team of investigators has been assembled and has already begun the probe with the hope to arrest the perpetrator(s). Part of the investigation will be to establish how the suspect(s) gained entry into the house. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage and no one has been arrested thus far. Police urge anyone with information that may assist in apprehending the suspect(s) to call the Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or send information via MYSAPSapp. All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.

Her husband, Chief Clyde Mnisi (37) was fatally shot on the Airport Road near White River next to Kruger-Mpumalanga International (KMI) Airport in the evening of Sunday, 26 March 2023 around 23:00 and his killers are still at large and have not yet been found.
