WATCH |Man caught carrying a body in a bag
It’s another day in South Africa in which we keep fighting a losing battle against gender-based violence (GBV). This is yet another case of GBV where a man was caught with a bag full of human remains.
A man was allegedly seen in the Baberton dumping site pulling a trolley with a 19-year-old woman’s body wrapped inside. The 38-year-old suspect was then rescued by the Baberton Police from an angry mob. This horrific incident happened on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at around 14:15.
Three women are said to have noticed the suspicious-looking man when they spotted him pushing a trolley that seemed too heavy for him. The women then approached a certain taxi driver operating a kombi at the traffic lights. The women described what they had seen, and asked him to help with the investigation. The bag then dropped from the man’s trolley when he saw them approaching. One of these worried bystanders opened the bag, an was in utter shock to see a woman’s body inside.
The police in Barberton were promptly called. By the time police got there, some residents had already begun beating him. Whatever the case, authorities were able to control the scene and save the culprit from the angry mob.
After being arrested by police, the man was sent to the hospital for medical treatment.
A post-mortem will be performed, and the reason for the death has not yet been determined. The terrible act is still being investigated by police at this time.
In the meantime, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the Provincial Commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, has vehemently denounced this incident while praising the citizens who were instrumental in exposing this tragedy.
