2 wanted dangerous suspects killed in a shootout with police

Two people, suspected of being involved in multiple murders, were shot and killed during a gunfire confrontation with police on Brackenhill Road in Hillcrest on the evening of Thursday, January 25, 2024.

Members of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) acted upon operational intelligence regarding the whereabouts of these suspects, who were on the police’s wanted list in connection with three murder cases.

Observant police officers identified a vehicle matching the description associated with the two men.

Despite signaling the vehicle to stop with their blue lights, they not only failed to comply but also exited their vehicle, initiating gunfire towards the police.

Faced with this threat, the law enforcement officers had no choice but to return fire.

Both suspects sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. Remarkably, no police officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire.

The dead men were wanted in connection with a double murder case, involving the shooting deaths of two men outside a Molweni tavern on January 4, 2024. Additionally, they were suspected of being responsible for the murder of a 50-year-old man discovered inside his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds on Windsor Road in Pinetown in November 2021.

The authorities found two firearms along with 21 rounds of ammunition in the possession of the dead suspects.
