Uncle Waffles: GQ South Africa Woman of The Year 2023

Amapiano sensation, Uncle Waffles, has been awarded “Woman of the Year 2023” by GQ South Africa. Uncle Waffles has expressed both her gratitude and amazement for this achievement.  Supporters have offered their celebratory messages and congratulations.

Uncle Waffles broke into the saturated music industry as a DJ in the year 2020. A DJ that was scheduled to perform at the Zone 6 nightclub in 2021 withdrew their slot which was filled by the popularly known Uncle Waffles. She gained prominence when she danced to the song ‘Adiwele’ by Young Stunna during her set. A video of this performance sent viral waves over social media. She proceeded to receive public endorsements and in her venture of music production, she released her debut single “Tanzania”. This single gained even further traction as Rolling Stone ranked it as the eighth afropop song of 2022. Since this breakthrough she has received multiple recognition acts as she was nominated for Best International Act at the 2023  BET Awards. She has also headlined one of the most prestigious worldwide platforms, Coachella. This is where she made history as the first-ever amapiano act.
