Uncle Vinny and DJ Maphorisa are set to make waves

Uncle Vinny is making a comeback after two years focused on his mental health following the sudden death of his mentor, Riky Rick.

The 22-year-old, whose real name is Kabelo Vincent Mpofu, has been busy in the studio with DJ Maphorisa, working on a collaborative project.

“I’m excited to be reintroducing myself as an artist who makes his own music. Maphorisa motivated me to get back to the game. He told me how much he believes in the brand Vinny and that I can take amapiano to the next level,” he shared.

Vinny, who experienced prolonged grief after losing four close friends in 2022, expressed gratitude for the support he received.

He described working with Maphorisa as an “honourable experience,” collaborating on four songs for his first EP with artists like Anatii, Mello & Sleazy, and LeeMckrazy.

“I used to be in the studio when some hit songs were made, but creating my own music feels refreshing. The Vinny you see now is more calm, reserved, and calculated. I’m planning what I will do for the next five years,” he added.

Reflecting on his struggles with grief, Vinny stated he is now ready for a global takeover. “Riky’s wish was to see me penetrate the global market, one that he opened for me. I had to learn how to smile without him around,” he said.

Describing his new sound as a blend of bacardi and amapiano, Vinny is working on a fresh vibe alongside Maphorisa and Ayanda Yumbs.

What’s next for Uncle Vinny

He dreams of collaborating with international stars like Drake, Chris Brown, and Gunna.

“It’s tough leading life in the public eye, but I have no doubt this is what I’m meant to do,” he concluded.
