In a historic moment for South African music, Tyla Seethal, at the age of 22, has become the youngest-ever Grammy award recipient from the country.
Tyla’s epic win!
Tyla clinched her first Grammy in the prestigious “Best African Performance” category at the 66th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, hosted by South African-born comedian Trevor Noah.
Competing against strong entries, Tyla’s win solidifies her position among renowned South African Grammy winners like Trevor Rabin, Wouter Kellerman, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Nomcebo Zikode, Black Coffee, and Zakes Bantwini.

“I never thought I would say I won a Grammy at 22 years old.”
“Last year, God decided to change my whole life. So, thank you so much to God, my team, and my family.”
Tyla’s breakthrough came with the success of her song “Water” last year, making her the first South African solo artist to feature on the Billboard Hot 100.
The track peaked at number seven, showcasing the global impact of South African music.
Minister for Sport, Arts, and Culture Zizi Kodwa commended Tyla’s remarkable success, stating:
“Tyla is a proud ambassador of South African arts and culture.”
