Teenager,15, dies at the police station
Lt Gen Nomthetheleli Mene, the provincial commissioner, expressed her sadness and grave concern over the death of a Motherwell teenager. This happened last week on 21 September 2022.
On 17 September 2022, Ms. Zenizole Vena, a 15-year-old, is said to have left her home with the intention of going to Malabar for a school event. She never made it back home. She was not reported missing.
A 58-year-old woman found Ms. Vena on the street on Wednesday, 21 September 2022, at around 6:40. The teen appeared to be sick and was sobbing. She allegedly suffered a rape at the hands of two men she knew. She was taken to the clinic by the woman, who was then directed to the police station. The woman and another person brought Ms. Vena to the police in Motherwell at around 08:00.
The teenager was vomiting, crying, and appeared to be suffering an epileptic seizure. An ambulance was dispatched as it was needed right away.
She allegedly experienced several seizures while she waited for the ambulance. By the time paramedics came, she had already passed away.
Police are looking into a rape case and an inquest.
An autopsy report is anticipated. Toxicology samples were collected, and they will be examined in the forensic laboratory.
The investigation into the alleged rape is ongoing, and no arrests have been made as of yet.
Children or anyone else who does not get home as planned and might be considered missing, according to the Provincial Commissioner, must be reported to the police right away.
There is no waiting period before filing a missing person report. As responsible adults, it is our duty to take all reasonable precautions to prevent children from being victims of crime since they are weak and easily persuaded. The unfortunate reality is that the victims often know the people who are committing gender-based violence,’ Lt Gen Mene continued.
