A suspect killed, others arrested in shootout

Intelligence was obtained concerning armed criminals preparing to hijack a truck. A collaborative team made up of the Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS) of the Hawks at Head Office, Crime Intelligence, Gauteng Traffic Police’s Saturation Unit, Tracker Connect, and Badboyz Security acted quickly. A suspect was killed.

The suspects were intercepted on 22 July 2022. Using crime intelligence-led information. The vehicles that fit the description were seen on R554 in Boksburg following an eight-ton truck. The police were met with gunfire when they tried to stop the suspects.

The result was a shootout as the police exchanged gunfire. Nine suspects were involved. A suspect was killed, four were injured and sent to the hospital, and the other four were arrested right away.

Three illegal guns were discovered in both of the allegedly criminally used vehicles, and two vehicles were impounded.

Eight (8) suspects, ranging in age from 26 to 48, are scheduled to appear in the Boksburg Magistrates court soon to answer to a number of counts, including conspiracy to conduct a crime, illegal possession of a firearm, and ammunition, and attempted murder.
