Keegan Allan (22) Signs With SuperSport United

SuperSport United’s head coach, Gavin Hunt, expressed his delight at the recent acquisition of defender Keegan Allan, who joins the Pretoria-based club after being released by Moroka Swallows.

Allan’s move to SuperSport follows his release from the financially troubled Moroka Swallows, a club that faced challenges fulfilling fixtures against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows in December due to disputes between players and management over non-payment.

Hunt, pleased to add Allan to his squad, highlighted the importance of having a solid player with the defender’s experience. “It’s good to have a solid player like Keegan in the mix,” said Hunt.

“He knows the club well and will provide valuable depth for us at a time when our injury list and suspensions were leaving us too thin at the back.”

The tough defender, who was not part of the initial 22 players released by Swallows but had his contract terminated last week, is seen as a valuable addition to the team.

Allan, a former Mamelodi Sundowns youth product, played a significant role for Swallows last season, featuring in 21 matches as the Soweto giants secured a top-eight finish.

In total, Allan made 31 appearances for Swallows, showcasing his defensive prowess by contributing two goals to the team.

SuperSport United, currently engaged in the CAF Confederation Cup, is in need of defensive depth, particularly with the absence of Thulani Hlatshwayo due to an ankle injury.

Hunt, in response to the injury challenges, has turned to young talents Ime Okon and Bilal Baloyi.

However, Okon’s suspension for two matches after being sent off in a game against Richards Bay has heightened the need for immediate defensive support.

Allan, a robust 22-year-old defender and a bronze medalist with the Bafana Bafana B side in the COSAFA Cup last year, expressed his eagerness to contribute to SuperSport United.

“An incredible privilege to be representing this massive club and brand,” said Allan, who left Sundowns in pursuit of more senior opportunities.

“I am very thankful and excited to be playing under the coach and his technical team and to play with this group of players.”

“When the time is right, The Lord, will make it happen.”

When can we see Allan play

All eyes will be on Allan as he gears up to make an immediate impact when SuperSport United faces Sekhukhune United on February 13, providing the defensive cover and experience the team needs in the upcoming matches.
