Stepfather arrested for murder of one-year-old
On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, Norman Moraba, a 31-year-old stepfather, who was arrested for murder and assault in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident, appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court. The court decided to postpone the case until July 19 to allow for a formal bail application.
The arrest of the suspect took place on Sunday, July 9, 2023, by the Tubatse Police. The arrest was made on the grounds of allegedly killing a 1-year-old girl and assaulting his girlfriend.

Authorities received a complaint from Bothashoek village, located outside Burgersfort, regarding the suspected assault of a minor by her stepfather.
Upon reaching the crime scene, the police discovered the lifeless body of the 1-year-old girl, who was found unconscious. Paramedics sadly certified her death at the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, who was the victim’s stepfather, assaulted her with an unidentified object while the mother was absent. The mother, a 28-year-old woman, had left the deceased and her 3-year-old sister around 18:00 to search for her boyfriend at a tavern in Praktiseer.
Allegedly, the suspect returned home before the mother and proceeded to assault the child.
Upon the mother’s return, she too became a victim of assault by the suspect.
The police investigation is ongoing.
