SAPS Station Commander shot during robbery at his home

Provincial Commissioner Lt. Gen. Nomthetheleli Mene has called on communities to assist the police in tracing the suspects involved in the shooting and robbery of a Station Commander from the Nelson Mandela Bay District on Friday afternoon, 17 May 2024.

According to reports, around 16:00 the officer, a Lieutenant Colonel, and his wife had just turned into the driveway of their house in NU7, Motherwell. As his wife exited the vehicle to open the gate, a white Suzuki hatchback drove into the driveway.

A suspect got out, approached the officer, and demanded his firearm. The officer was shot in the arm before the suspect fled with two cellphones taken from the vehicle.

The officer is currently in hospital in stable condition.

The Provincial Serious and Violent Investigation Unit is investigating the case of attempted murder and robbery.

Lt Gen Mene said, “The attack on the officer is not only an attack, on one of our officers but an attack on the State. We will not rest until those responsible are hunted down and arrested. We urge anyone with information related to this incident to come forward.

Any details, no matter how small, could be crucial in our investigation. We will stand strong against those who seek to undermine the safety and security of our communities and our men and women in blue.”
