SAPS officer Constable Ntshabang Ndonyane arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition

A South African Police Service (SAPS) officer, Constable Ntshabang Ndonyane,stationed in Johannesburg , was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Mokopane, Limpopo.

The arrest followed a tip-off about a red Etios with registration CHAX GP traveling on the N1 from Polokwane toward Mokopane, with two suspects reported to be heavily armed.

SAPS officers arrested with illegal firearm and ammunition

Upon receiving the information, law enforcement set up a roadblock near a weighbridge on the R101 road, where roadwork was taking place. As the red Etios approached, officers closed the road and stopped the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, authorities discovered a range of firearms and ammunition, including:

– One 9mm pistol with a filed-off serial number and 14 live rounds.

– One Beretta 9mm pistol with serial number PX0678E and 18 live rounds (a state firearm belonging to SAPS).

– One DMU Rifle with serial number RSA 861129 and 45 live rounds (legally owned by the officer).

The discovery of these weapons raised serious concerns about potential criminal activity and the misuse of a state firearm.

The incident is being investigated by relevant authorities to determine the full scope of Constable Ndonyane’s involvement, as well as to ascertain any links to other criminal activities.

The arrest serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining integrity within law enforcement agencies and ensuring that police officers are held to high standards of accountability and professionalism.
