R4 Million drug bust in an accident scene
Law enforcement got a big breakthrough by arresting a 23-year-old man with approximately R4,583,370 worth of suspected cocaine on the N4 Road during a minor accident at Valencia near Nelspruit on Thursday, May 2, 2024.
Reportedly, a white KIA bakkie, towing a trailer, was travelling on the road when the trailer disconnected from the truck, resulting in a minor collision. Nelspruit South African Police Service (SAPS) officers responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers detected a suspicious smell and found that the courier vehicle had spilled about 8 crates of white powder. They immediately called in the K9 Unit and members from the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) for assistance.
During investigation, it was determined that the substance, weighing approximately 11 kilograms, was likely cocaine. An inquiry was initiated, and the driver was detained for further questioning.
The confiscated substances will undergo testing as part of the investigation. While police believe the consignment may have been destined for locations in the Gauteng Province, further details will emerge as the investigation progresses.
Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, commended the officers for their vigilance, reiterating the importance of public cooperation in combating crime.
