Politically connected drug lord haunts Sizok’thola’s Xolani
A drug lord allegedly fired a warning shot in their battle against Moja Love’s drug-busting show, Sizok’thola, by fabricating a case of assault against the show’s presenter, Xolani Maphanga, and his crew.
The incident unfolded after Maphanga and his team, accompanied by the police, conducted a raid on the property of a suspected drug lord in Soshanguve following a tip-off.
According to an internal staff memo from the channel, the drug lord, who reportedly has political connections, accused Maphanga and his bouncers of assault after they attempted to confiscate drugs during the operation.
The memo detailed that a case of assault had been opened against Maphanga and his team by a family of three, who claimed they were attacked when the drugs were not found.
The police, led by warrant officer Masombuka from Soshanguve police station, instructed the Sizok’thola team to arrest Maphanga and charge him with assault.
However, recognizing the credibility of the show’s work, the police opted for a meeting with the team instead of immediate arrest.
The memo revealed that the police planned to conduct an identity parade involving Maphanga and his crew, under pressure from higher authorities, possibly at the provincial level.
The complainant, who is said to have ties to the ANC, threatened community strike action if no action was taken in the case.
In response to the allegations, the channel executives instructed the crew to retrieve the recordings of the incident and provide them to the police as evidence that the assault claims were unfounded.
