Police officer and 2 foreign nationals arrested in drug bust

On 25 February 2024, authorities in Lephalale made huge progress in combating drug-related crimes with the arrest of three people.

Among those arrested are two foreign nationals, aged 40 and 47, alongside a 28-year-old South African female police officer.

The arrests happened during a well executed operation by various law enforcement units, including the Provincial Narcotic Team, Lephalale Dog Unit (K9), and Public Order Policing (POPS).

The tactical operation spread across multiple locations, with authorities zeroing in on suspects linked to drug trafficking. Initially, the focus was on a residence in Waterlellie, Onverwacht, where a 47-year-old foreign national was arrested.

Upon search and seizure, law enforcement officers uncovered a substantial amount of narcotics, including 400 sachets of Nyaope, a significant quantity of dagga, and Crystal Meth, collectively valued at over R40,000

The operation then extended to Batteleur Flats, Onverwacht, where another foreign national, aged 40, was intercepted alongside his 28-year-old South African lover.

A search of their residence revealed a hidden  stash of Crystal Meth, with an estimated street value exceeding R34,000. Immediate action by law enforcement led to the arrest of the duo and the confiscation of the illicit substances.

In a startling twist, investigations uncovered that the 28-year-old woman arrested during the operation is a serving police Constable stationed in the Gauteng province.
