Pirates coach trying to forget the past
In their 2-1 MTN8 quarterfinal victory over Royal AM in Durban, Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro stated no team dominated the game. He claimed he was pleased to see his team scoring twice and maintaining their lead.
Bucs defeated the Durban team for the second time in a week. This was at Chatsworth Stadium with two goals from Vincent Pule and game-player Thabiso Nonyane. Additionally, Pirates earned all three points in a DStv Premiership match against Royal last week at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Throughout the 90 minutes, both teams had their moments. Naturally, you have to take all the risks when you have the upper hand in a knockout game, according to Riveiro.
“Because they have quality players, they [Royal] could do that. In this field [Chatsworth], it is quite challenging to perform. You feel like you’re losing some control when you start to rack up free kicks, fouls, and corner kicks, but we did it well, and we’re going to learn a lot from it. We can’t argue that we didn’t completely overwhelm our opponents, but they also didn’t completely dominate us, in my opinion.
Riveiro is pleased to defeat Royal in Durban for the second time in a week. Bucs’ performance versus Royal this season has been different from how they did against them previously when they drew both home and away league games.
Pirates coach on last season
“I’m not sure what happened the previous season. Former Finnish coach Riviero stated, “I was in Finland last season.
“We’re trying to do things right as we play this season here with this bunch of guys, with new goals and a new mentality.
“When we are playing an opponent, I don’t consider what happened the season before. I’m attempting to put the past behind me since it’s a new game. We scored two goals today, and I believe we still have opportunities to score more. After the game, that is what we need to analyze. We must understand that we contributed to the creation of six, seven, or eight opportunities, and that gives me hope for the future.
“We’ll score more in proportion to how much more we make. Since we scored two versus Royal, there is no need for discussion.
Pirates will travel back to KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday to play Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium. Pirates currently lead the Premiership after winning three, drawing two, and losing one league match.
The MTN8 semifinal matchup between Bucs and Mamelodi Sundowns has been drawn.
