Percy Tau’s future is uncertain
Al Ahly sporting director Mohamed Ramadan has addressed the future of Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau, who is in the final year of his contract with the Cairo club, leaving his future uncertain.
Tau’s situation has been a topic of considerable speculation as his contract approaches its conclusion.
Ramadan stated, “Percy Tau’s contract renewal is pending, but it depends on coach [Marcel] Koller’s vision. We’ll make the best decision for the player in coordination with the coach.”
For Tau to secure a new deal with Al Ahly, he will need to regain his best form.
Since arriving in Egypt in August 2021, he has had a challenging season, making only five appearances across all competitions so far.
If a new contract is not finalised by January, it may suggest that Al Ahly are no longer interested in keeping him, allowing him to enter into pre-contract negotiations with another club of his choosing.
Looking ahead, Tau will aim to earn more playing time at Al Ahly.
He has also been recalled to the Bafana Bafana squad, having been included in the preliminary selection for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan.
Should Al Ahly decide not to retain him beyond this season, a return to the Premier Soccer League remains a possibility for Tau.
