Outspoken Rulani Mokwena sends a message to Kaizer Chiefs
Despite handing Kaizer Chiefs a humiliating 5-1 defeat, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has come to the defense of his counterpart, Cavin Johnson.
Mokwena believes that the interim Chiefs coach is not receiving the respect he deserves, particularly in light of the challenging circumstances surrounding the match.
The encounter, which saw Sundowns secure their seventh consecutive DStv Premiership title, was marred by controversy.
Chiefs were reduced to ten men early in the game after Given Msimango received a red card, a decision Johnson contested, arguing that a foul was committed against his team in the build-up to Sundowns’ opening goal.
“The red card spoiled my game in one moment,” Johnson lamented after the match.
He expressed his frustration with the officiating, stating, “There’s a foul on the right-hand side [Lorch on Dithlokwe] and the referee points the other way. From that moment they go to the other side and they score.”
Despite the one-sided scoreline, Mokwena acknowledged the impact of the red card and empathized with Johnson’s position. “I think coach Cavin doesn’t get the respect he deserves,” Mokwena stated.
He further highlighted the difficulties Johnson faces as interim coach, navigating a transitional period for the club.
