Orlando Pirates make a move on Zimbabwean international in major transfer coup

Soweto giants Orlando Pirates are reportedly interested in signing Zimbabwean defender Frank Makarati.

The 29-year-old, who currently captains Dynamos, has gained attention after a successful campaign in domestic football.

Makarati recently helped his team win the 2023 1 Chibuku Super Cup, further increasing his appeal to potential suitors.

According to reports from Soccer Laduma, Orlando Pirates is not the only South African club interested in Makarati.

Moroka Swallows, another top-flight team, is also monitoring the player’s progress.

An unnamed source revealed that Makarati’s performance has attracted a lot of interest since the end of the Zimbabwean season.

Initially, it was Orlando Pirates who showed interest, but now Moroka Swallows has also joined the race for his signature.

“The thing is we didn’t know whether Pirates wanted to give him a trial or they wanted to sign him straight away. And now there is Moroka Swallows,” said a source.

The source further stated that the exact intentions of Orlando Pirates are unclear. It is uncertain whether the club wants to give Makarati a trial or sign him directly.

Meanwhile, Makarati has also been linked with clubs in Tanzania and Zambia, indicating that his talents have not gone unnoticed beyond South Africa’s borders.

Makarati’s potential move to Orlando Pirates or Moroka Swallows would present an exciting opportunity for the Zimbabwean defender.

Joining a top-flight South African club would allow him to test his skills at a higher level and gain exposure to a wider audience.
