One person shot and killed at an ANC branch
Following a shooting at an ANC branch meeting in Kanyamazane, outside of Mbombela in Mpumalanga, one person has died.
The event is said to have taken place following an altercation between the police and a group of individuals trying to forcibly enter the location where the gathering was conducted.
Muzi Chirwa, the ANC secretary for Mpumalanga, claims that police were brought into the location for security reasons since previous disruptions prevented the branch from properly holding meetings. After the incident, according to Chirwa, the meeting went on.
However, the branch had intended to enlist the help of the saps today to help at the gate entrance. Then, others who had been brought in from other places, who I won’t name, came in and got into a fight with the police. No matter who committed the killing or who was shot, we regretted both. However, we forbid members from moving between other branches. Therefore, we must adhere to the one-branch, one-ward policy,” Chiwa stated.
