According to experts, the high rate of negative DNA tests underscores the importance of ensuring accurate parentage information and highlights the need for greater awareness and access to DNA testing services.

The implications of these findings are significant,  not only for the individuals directly impacted but also for society as a whole.

The emotional and psychological toll on families dealing with finding out about being misled about paternity cannot be overstated, as trust and identity are called into question

A paternity test determines whether a certain man is a particular child’s genetic or biological dad. A complete paternity test examines samples from the child, the birth mother, and the alleged father.

The DNA price depends on the testing company or facility. For instance, a DNA test at Lister Clinic can cost around R1 400 each (R2 800 for two people), while companies like EasyDNA charge from R2 695 to more than R18 000.
