MTN8 will intruduce a new trophy

The Buccaneers will have the opportunity to claim the present trophy for a lifetime, according to the Premier Soccer League and MTN, who both stated that there will be a new MTN8 trophy starting with the next season.

At the pre-game press conference in Durban on the afternoon of 3 November, MTN8 General Manager of Brand and Marketing, Nomsa Chabeli, confirmed the information.

If Pirates defeat AmaZulu in Saturday’s final, it would be their fourth MTN8 victory since the competition’s inception and name. The Sea Robbers would be permitted to keep the trophy because it would be their fourth victory and more than any other Premier Soccer League team.

AmaZulu would have to return the trophy if they were to win the competition, as it would be their first-ever MTN8 victory. The telecoms company had been the sponsor since they took control, and if Usuthu defeated Pirates, they would maintain it for the entire year.

The Buccaneers’ first victory came during the 2010–11 campaign at Moses Mabhida Stadium, and they earned two more victories in 2011–12 at FNB Stadium and in 2020–21 at the same venue.
Meanwhile, AmaZulu has advanced to their first MTN8 final.
