Mohamed Salah (31) to Return From AFCON for Injury Treatment

Liverpool’s star forward, Mohamed Salah, is set to return from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to undergo treatment for a muscle injury, casting a shadow over Egypt’s campaign in the tournament.

While Salah hopes to rejoin the competition if Egypt advances to the later stages, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp emphasizes the importance of proper rehabilitation with the club’s medical staff.

The setback occurred during Egypt’s 2-2 draw with Ghana, prompting Salah’s substitution in the first half.

The 31-year-old forward sustained a muscle injury, and subsequent medical assessments revealed that he would miss Egypt’s final group game against Cape Verde and was unlikely to be fit until at least the semi-final stage.

After Liverpool’s 4-0 victory at Bournemouth, Klopp addressed the situation, stating, “The best solution is that he’s doing the rehab with us or with our people.”

The Liverpool manager stressed the importance of Salah’s recovery under the supervision of the club’s medical staff, indicating a collaborative approach to managing the player’s fitness.

The hope is for Mohamed Salah to at least be back before the final if Egypt make it that far.

An agreement has been reached between the Egyptian Football Association and Liverpool, paving the way for Salah’s return to Merseyside for treatment.

The Egyptian FA stated, “After carrying out additional examinations of Mohamed Salah…it has been confirmed that the player will return to England following the Cape Verde game tomorrow to complete his treatment, hoping to catch him in the semi-finals.”

The football world will be hoping for Salah’s return

While Salah is set to miss the final group game, his return to the AFCON remains a possibility if Egypt progresses to the semi-finals.

Klopp affirmed this plan, saying, “If Egypt qualifies for the final and he is fit before the final, then probably yes. Why not? That’s clear.”
