Mob necklaces man who allegedly stole a plasma TV

A man was brutally killed by a mob after stealing a Plasma TV in Makurung village, just outside Lebowakgomo in Limpopo.

The incident occurred yesterday morning and has left the community in a state of shock and fear.

According to Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS), the homeowner woke up to unusual sounds within his residence and discovered three intruders stealing his plasma television.

The homeowner immediately raised an alarm, calling for help from the community.

Members of the community quickly responded to the distress call and gathered at the scene.

In the chaos that followed, two of the thieves managed to escape, leaving their comrade behind. The angry mob, driven by a sense of vigilantism, cornered the suspect and brutally assaulted him.

Despite the police being alerted and intervening, they were unable to save the man, who succumbed to his injuries inflicted during the mob assault.

The police have launched an urgent manhunt to identify and apprehend the individuals involved in the brutal attack.

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of Police, strongly condemned the use of mob justice in response to this incident.

She urged community members to resist the temptation of taking the law into their own hands and instead report any suspicious criminal activity to the police.
