MaWhoo threatens legal action against agent
IsiZulu music sensation MaWhoo, whose real name is Thandeka Nontobeko Ngema, has threatened legal action against music promoter and agent Edmond “Eddz” Mafokwana after he allegedly skipped the Blouberg Spring Festival in Limpopo on September 28.
According to reports, Eddz was acting as the intermediary between the event organisers and MaWhoo Entertainment.
However, MaWhoo claims she was never officially booked for the event and did not receive payment, which led to her absence.
The event organiser, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed frustration and publicly called out MaWhoo on Facebook.
In response, MaWhoo issued a statement demanding that Eddz “immediately cease and desist from spreading false and harmful information” about her and her career.
She stated, “Your actions constitute defamation and are causing harm to my reputation and livelihood.”
Eddz was reportedly paid R35,000 to secure MaWhoo for the festival, but the specifics of her booking fee and Eddz’s commission remain unclear.
MaWhoo continued, “I take pride in my craft and have worked tirelessly to build a reputable name in the music industry. Your slanderous comments and actions are damaging my reputation and causing emotional distress, detracting from my ability to secure gigs and collaborations. I request that you retract all false accusations and remove any related online posts and content. Failure to do so may result in legal action.”
When approached for clarification, Eddz acknowledged MaWhoo’s legal threats but stated, “I am aware of MaWhoo’s legal threats, but this matter has been resolved. She’s supposed to remove the statement from Facebook.”
In contrast, MaWhoo’s manager, Noxolo Ngema, refuted Eddz’s claims, saying, “I don’t know what he’s talking about. We will not entertain this.” The event organiser declined to comment further.
