Man wanted for ZAR94 theft gets caught up in murder

The Zimbabwe Republic Police have confirmed that murder accused Thomas Nyamhunga had been on their wanted list for weeks

Nyamhunga grabbed the news headlines earlier this week after he went on the rampage killing the child of his estranged girlfriend, Needmore Mauka.

It is alleged that Mauka broke up with Nyamhunga and he did not take kindly to the rejection. He then murdered Mauka’s five-year-old child as a way of hurting her. The minor died from stabbing and strangulation.

As if that was not enough, he attempted to kill Mauka’s daughter aged 8 but her sharp screams forced him to abandon his mission by fleeing the scene.

Nyamhunga made his first court appearance on Wednesday and was remanded in custody until December 20.

During his court appearance, it emerged that he had been on the police wanted list for theft.

The initial dispute revolved around a paltry sum of US$5 (about ZAR94.60).

The charges stacked against him include murder, attempted murder, and domestic violence in the wake of the heart-wrenching incident where he claimed the life of Mauka’s five-year-old son on Sunday night.

His court appearance was presided by magistrate Batanai Madzingira who subsequently remanded him in custody.

He was advised to apply to the high court for bail.
