Man accused of raping and killing Amanhle claims he was assaulted in prison
A man accused of raping and killing six-year-old Amanhle Samane appeared in court on Friday, limping and claiming he had been “badly” assaulted by prison warders.
Pethe Sara Simia, who faced charges of rape and murder at the Protea magistrate’s court under heavy police security, asked to be released on bail.
After a brief discussion, the magistrate decided that Simia would return to Johannesburg prison but be moved to a different cell.
He also informed Simia, who complained of pain in his stomach and legs, that he would receive medical attention. The case was postponed to December 3.
Amantle was buried on Thursday. She was just days away from her preschool graduation when her body was found in the shack rented by Simia in Orlando. He had fled the scene but was arrested a few days later.
