Man nabbed on his way to smuggle a hijacked vehicle at Beitbridge border

Another major development in the ongoing battle against the illegal smuggling of vehicles across our borders has been made by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo.

In a well planned operation that took place on Sunday morning, March 17, 2024, police stopped another suspect who was travelling in a Ford Raptor along the R101 at Lunds Farm.

The suspect was planning to smuggle the car into one of the neighbouring countries by way of the Beitbridge border crossing.

According to preliminary information, the car was hijacked on Friday, March 15, in Pretoria. The 49-year-old suspect was released on bail on a similar charge and is scheduled to appear in court again before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest and commended this team of members for their endless effort in the fight against crime

A case of possession of suspected stolen property was opened at Westenburg Police Station.

The suspect will appear before Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on wednesday 20 March 2024 for the second charge.
