Man hunted mother’s killer, stabbed him 50 times
imprisonment for life, Melikhaya Fikizolo, received this punishment in the Pietermaritzburg High Court .In 2011, Fikizolo admitted to killing the man he said had killed his mother.
Along with the murder, he admitted to raping the deceased man’s older sister.
He was given a life sentence for the murder and rape as well as a 15-year prison term for robbery, by acting judge Elsje-Marie Bezuidenhout. She disagreed with his claim that he wanted to revenge for his mother’s murder.
In his plea, Fikizolo explained to the court how he found his mother’s lover on Facebook. He lured him by posing as a white woman and setting up a meeting.
Fikizolo, who now resides in the Western Cape, claimed he was born and raised in the Eastern Cape’s King William’s Town.
He testified before the court that the deceased had dated his mother from 2009 to 2011 and that they frequently travelled to nearby hotels.
According to Fikizolo, the man was someone he met twice. On the second occasion, the man killed his mother in front of him.
He claimed that after getting away, he alerted his relatives, who eventually discovered his mother’s body.
Years later, when using Facebook, Fikizolo claimed to have come across the deceased’s profile and decided to friend him.
“I made the decision to make a fake profile in order to befriend him. Because of what he did to my mother, I wanted to exact revenge.
Using the name Rihana, he allegedly made a false profile pretending to be a white woman.
On 5 June, the day of the murder, Fikizolo left for Pietermaritzburg and texted the victim to meet him at the Prestbury Shell garage.
Fikizolo said when the deceased arrived, he recognised him and when he walked away he followed him.
After that, he confronted the man in the shop over the murder of his mother.
According to Fikizolo, the deceased attempted to use pepper spray to attack him, but he was ultimately fatally stabbed.
He said he hid the body in the back of the room and had to wait to leave because there were people around.
The 67-year-old sister of the deceased came at this point.
Fikizolo claimed she was going to scream when she found her brother’s body.
He claimed to have taken her upstairs, raped her, and then fled, leaving his cellphone at the scene.
He claimed that when he went to the police station to report his missing smartphone, he was interrogated about the murder and taken into custody.
Senior state attorney Candy Kander described the attack on the deceased as vicious, intentional, and heartless during the hearing.
“The plaintiff would have encountered a terrible sight marked by copious amounts of blood upon discovering her brother’s body.
The victim was stabbed 31 times in the left neck area and 19 times in the left chest area, severing his jugular vein.
In his defense, Kander said that the accused’s actions that morning were reprehensible, adding that “he mercilessly harassed the complainant.”
“In addition to raping her twice, he also threatened to kill her. As he spoke, he clamped a drawn knife to her neck.
According to Kander, gender-based violence has reached pandemic levels, and courts must issue clear warnings against such offences.
