Mampintsha passes away
Mampintsha, gqom musician and husband of Babes Wodumo, has died.
The 40-year-old star died on Saturday morning
West Ink Records manager Sbu Ncube confirmed the news to TshisaLIVE.
In a statement, the artist’s management said details of his passing cannot be shared with the public and that communication about funeral and memorial services would be announced in due course.
The news of Mamphintsha’s passing comes a few days after he was hospitalized for suffering a stroke.
In a statement released by Afrotainment a few day back, the label confirmed that the star, real name Mandla Maphumulo, was in hospital following a stroke after a performance with Big Nuz.
The incident happened a week ago.
“He is currently in hospital receiving medical attention and is under doctor’s observation,” the label said.
“The family asks that the public and media respect their privacy during this difficult time.
“We ask that you keep him in your prayers. Afrotainment wishes him a speedy recovery and we cannot wait for him to rock our stages again.”
Mampintsha and Babes Wodumo had a baby in July 2021 and the two have been working on their marriage, as seen on their reality show, Uthando Lodumo.
In an interview with Drum just before the start of season 2, he shared how far they had come.
“Our relationship has changed. We have been together for almost 11 years, and we have seen how we have evolved,” he said.
“The guy I saw in that abuse video wasn’t me. I didn’t recognise that person. I realised that I needed to work on myself.”
They have put the past behind them.
“The abuse is in the past. No one should bring it up again. We don’t even want to mention the abuse because we decided as a couple not to ever bring it up. I have learned to move forward. I am proud that we are facing our problems head-on. I believe in dealing with issues and not sweeping them under the carpet. Both Babes and I are going for counselling, which people will see on the show. This has helped me a lot in dealing with issues I didn’t know existed.”
