Limpopo man arrested with 107 TV sets worth R375 000

In a recent development, the South African Police Service (SAPS) at Musina in the Vhembe District, Limpopo, made a recovery of 107 television screens and arrested a 44-year-old man on 10th July 2023 at approximately 14:00 in Musina China Mall.The man was taken into custody for being in possession of stolen property.

According to reports, vigilant police officers noticed a man acting suspiciously, carrying a television. The officers approached the suspect and initiated questioning, during which he failed to provide satisfactory explanations.

Upon further investigation, over 100 Samsung “32” inch televisions were recovered from a storeroom. These televisions were determined to have been stolen during a hijacking incident in October of the previous year (2022) in Volsloorus, Gauteng Province.

The suspect was promptly arrested, and a total of 107 televisions with an estimated value of R375,000 were confiscated as evidence. Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, commended the officers for their diligent work in recovering such a substantial quantity of stolen TVs and apprehending the suspect.

On Wednesday, 12th July 2023, the suspect, identified as Abrar Jamel Hassen, aged 44, appeared before the Musina magistrate. He has been granted bail in the amount of R10,000-00, pending further investigation, due to his alleged possession of suspected stolen property.

The South African Police Service continues its ongoing investigations into this matter, aiming to uncover any additional information related to the incident.
