Learners die after being struck by a truck
A strange truck accident claimed the lives of three primary school learners. The accident happened on Friday morning, in Chatsworth, south of the hub of Durban.
The accident happened just before 8am on the Chatsworth Main Road.
The four children were walking to school when a low-bed truck carrying a load went off the road and struck them.
“One child, aged approximately 10-years-old had sustained critical injuries and was stabilised on scene by ALS paramedics before being rushed to a nearby hospital for the urgent care that he required.

Jamieson confirmed that the child died a short while later in hospital.

According to Garrith Jamieson, a spokesman for ALS Paramedics, the truck spun over and came to rest on its roof.
More emergency crews also arrived at the scene.
A triage of the scene was done and it was found that the truck driver, in his 30s, and two children, aged six and nine, sustained major injuries. Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for them and they were declared deceased at the scene,” Jamieson said.
He added that police were investigating the matter further.
The families of the deceased children were called to the scene by the principal of the Umhlatuzana Primary School, who was also at the scene to identify her pupils.
