Kutlwano Letlhaku scores twice as Mamelodi Sundowns beat Polokwane City
Teenage star Kutlwano Letlhaku scored twice as Mamelodi Sundowns won 2-0 against Polokwane City on Wednesday night.
Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi made nine changes to the team that won against Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend, with only striker Peter Shalulile and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams staying in the starting lineup.
After the match, Mngqithi explained his decision to start 18-year-old Letlhaku:
“It’s strange in football because sometimes we look like soothsayers,” the coach told SuperSport.
“I told him he’s going to score two goals today, because I had a feeling that something was going to open up on that side with Tlou Nkwe and Lebohang Nkaki.”
“If we’ve got someone who is dynamic – I could have picked a more experienced player, but I wanted someone who is willing to take risks,” Mngqithi added. “In the first half, he could have taken three shots, but because he’s young and respectful, he only opened up after scoring.”
With this win, Sundowns remain second in the league, just three points behind leaders Orlando Pirates.
Sundowns will return to action on the weekend when they play Marumo Gallants in the semifinal of the Carling Knockout Cup.
