Kermit Erasmus to Cape Town Spurs?

Cape Town Spurs show interest in Kermit Erasmus, but the former Orlando Pirates striker leaves ex-Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp’s team puzzled

The 34-year-old forward has been without a club since leaving the Soweto giants at the end of last season.

Kermit Erasmus was recently training with National First Division team Cape Town Spurs, but he has unexpectedly stopped.

Spurs’ CEO, Alexi Efstathiou, said they were ready to offer Erasmus a contract if coach Ernst Middendorp was interested in him.

What was said about Kermit Erasmus

“It is true that Kermit has been training with us,” Efstathiou told Isolezwe.

“He was the one who asked to train with us. What surprised us was that he left without telling the coaches. We don’t know where he is now; maybe he has found another team.

“Although he requested to train with us, we would like to sign him if the coaches are happy with his condition. But it’s not a priority anymore, and we wish him luck.”

The bigger picture

Erasmus has been a free agent since his contract with Orlando Pirates ended in June. This marked the end of his two-year second stint with the Buccaneers, during which he had limited playing time.

He was linked with a return to Cape Town City during the off-season, but that move didn’t happen before he started training with Spurs.

What’s next for Erasmus?

It’s unclear if Spurs will try to persuade the veteran forward to return for training and prepare a contract for him.

As some teams in the Premier Soccer League and NFD realise their attacking issues, Erasmus remains available on the market.
