Kaizer Chiefs R5-million Peter Mokaba deal
Following a deal with the Polokwane Municipality, Kaizer Chiefs announced this past week that three of their DStv Premiership home matches will be played in Polokwane this season.
The games against Royal AM on January 29, Lamontville Golden Arrows on February 19, and Swallows FC on May 2, 2023, will all take place in Limpopo’s capital city.
It’s interesting to see that the South African now claims that Chiefs will profit more than R5 million from their agreement.

According to the publication, the municipal government will pay the Chiefs between R1 million and R1.5 million for each of their three games at the arena with a capacity of 45 000.
The municipality is set to pocket 80% of the gate takings, while Chiefs will take home 20%.
Chiefs have only confirmed that “the commercial partnership entered into is mutually beneficial”.

“We are delighted to be back in province of Limpopo and the city of Polokwane in particular, where we enjoy great support,” stated Kaizer Chiefs Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung. “We are looking forward to three exciting games with a full stadium because we know that the people of Limpopo will come out in numbers because they love Amakhosi.
“Their support proved key in the past when we lifted the league trophy with the New Peter Mokaba as our home venue. We hope that history will be repeated when we play at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium again.”
“We believe in long-term agreements; and being in Polokwane for three years means we will be working with the municipality to achieve our goals or promoting sport, particularly football in the city,” Motaung added.
