30-year-old Itumeleng Raborako sentenced to 10 years for raping his wife

A 30-year-old man, Itumeleng Raborako, has been handed a ten-year prison sentence after he was convicted of rape and the contravention of a protection order. According to the police,  on 07 September 2022,  the then 34-year-old victim she was sleeping at her house in Grassland, Bloemspruit area Bloemfontein, when her husband Itumeleng Raboroko arrived unannounced.

Raboroko started verbally abusing and physically assaulting his wife. The situation escalated as he proceeded to forcefully undressed and raped her.

Overwhelmed by the trauma, the victim reported the incident to the Bloemspruit South African Police Service (SAPS). Immediate action was taken, leading to the swift arrest of Itumeleng Raboroko on the same day.

Subsequently, on 25 January 2024, the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court,, found Raboroko guilty on charges of rape and was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment .

Additionally, he faced consequences for contravening a protection order, receiving a four-year prison term. The sentences will be served concurrently.

The diligent investigation into this distressing case was conducted by Detective Sergeant Matlale Sello of the Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offense Unit. The conviction and sentencing underscores the commitment of law enforcement to ensuring justice for victims of such crimes.
