“I was a victim of identity theft by a Zimbabwean.” victim speaks out
Recent developments about the fraudulent citizenship of Miss SA finalist, Chidimma Adetshina, has brought national debate and public outrage.
Department of Home Affairs identified prima facie reasons to believe that fraud and identity theft may have been committed by the individual listed as Chidimma Adetshina’s mother in Home Affairs records
This means that there is credible evidence suggesting that Chidimma Adetshina’s mother may have engaged in fraudulent activities and identity theft.
An innocent South African mother, whose identity may have been stolen as part of the alleged fraud, was unable to register her child due to these fraudulent actions.
Following the statement released by the Department of Home Affairs, victims of identity theft have come out in numbers to tell their story and sufferings they have endured in their struggle to regain their identity. One of the victims named Nhlanhla Cele voiced out the pain he went through after his identification was stolen by a Zimbabwean national.
“I was a victim of identity theft by a Zimbabwean
My life was a mess for 5 years.
For you guys, this is just a game.
We know this pain.
My life stood still for 6 years.
You can call us names and vilify us.” He wrote.
To victims Identity theft is not just a crime—it’s a life sentence as victim’s lives come to a stand still .
