Golden Arrows desperate for out-of-favour Sundowns goalkeeper

Golden Arrows are reportedly keen to secure a permanent move for goalkeeper Ismail Watenga, who is currently on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Ugandan shot-stopper joined Sundowns in 2020 but has spent the majority of his time away from the club on loan spells at Chippa United and Marumo Gallants.

According to a source at Golden Arrows, the club is impressed with Watenga’s performances and is looking to make an offer to Sundowns for his services.

The source highlighted Watenga’s international experience as a major asset for the team, saying, “Having someone with an international experience like him in the team is a big boost because it makes other goalkeepers work hard and fight for the number one spot.”

The source also praised Watenga’s competitive spirit and the positive impact he has had on the team, stating, “He has that competitive spirit that makes you also want to work extra hard. That’s what he has brought to the team.”

It is understood that Golden Arrows are keen to finalize the deal with Sundowns before Watenga’s loan deal expires at the end of the season.
