Mia le Roux, the first-ever deaf contestant in the Miss South Africa pageant, is a trailblazer in every sense of the word. Born in Sasolburg and raised in Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape, Le Roux has faced significant challenges from an early age. Diagnosed with profound hearing loss at just one year old, she was initially met with a world of silence. However, thanks to the unwavering support of her community, she was given the gift of hearing, which allowed her to thrive.
Le Roux’s journey is one of determination and resilience. Despite her early challenges, she has built a successful career as a marketing manager and model. She is also pursuing a part-time B.Com. degree in Marketing. Her involvement in the pageant is driven by her desire to advocate for inclusivity and to inspire others facing similar challenges. Le Roux’s presence in the competition was not just a personal victory but a significant milestone for the deaf community in South Africa.
