Former Manchester City superstar Robinho begins his 9 year jail term in a tiny cell
Former Manchester City footballer Robinho is facing a stark reality as he begins his nine-year sentence for his involvement in a gang-rape case.
The 40-year-old has been transferred to a Brazilian prison in Tremembé, known for its chilling conditions and housing dangerous criminals, including murderers and rapists.
Robinho, along with five other men, was convicted of sexually assaulting an Albanian woman in a club back in 2013.
Despite an international arrest warrant issued by Italy, Robinho evaded jail time for seven years while residing in Sao Paulo.
He maintains his innocence, and his defense team is reportedly preparing an appeal against the court’s decision.
Upon his arrival at the prison, Robinho is expected to spend at least the first 10 days in a temporary isolation cell.
Here, he will undergo observation by guards, medical assessments, and psychological evaluations.
The cell, a small 8-square meter concrete block, contains basic amenities such as a bed, sink, and a floor-level toilet, with only a barred window offering a glimpse of the outside world.
Following the initial isolation period, Robinho will be integrated into the common housing pavilion within the Penitentiary Two (P2) jail, where he will join over 430 other inmates.
Tremembé is notorious for housing high-profile criminals, including child killers, murderers, and rapists, all of whom are required to wear matching outfits of a white t-shirt and khaki pants.
Despite the challenging environment, the prison does provide inmates with a football pitch for recreational use, offering a brief respite from the harsh realities of life behind bars.
