Football world expresses shock after Kaizer Chiefs defender was killed during hijacking

The football world has been shaken by the tragic news of the passing of Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs, who was fatally shot in a hijacking incident on Wednesday.

The devastating news was confirmed by a source close to the club, sending shockwaves through the football community and prompting an outpouring of grief and condolences for the young player.

Gauteng police spokesperson Lt-Col Mavela Masondo stated that as of late Wednesday night, no official report had been received regarding the incident.

The circumstances surrounding Fleurs’ death remain unclear, and the authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to shed light on the tragic events that led to the loss of the talented footballer.


In response to the heartbreaking news, Kaizer Chiefs’ corporate communications manager Vina Maphosa expressed the club’s deep sorrow but refrained from providing further details or comments at this stage.

The football fraternity mourns the untimely passing of Luke Fleurs, a promising player who had recently joined the club as a free agent in October after being released by SuperSport United.

Fleurs, aged 24, had a promising career ahead of him, having previously played 70 matches for SuperSport United, where he showcased his talent and dedication on the field.

The young centreback made a name for himself since joining SuperSport United from first division club Ubuntu FC in 2018, demonstrating his skills and potential as a professional footballer.

Despite his recent move to Kaizer Chiefs, Luke Fleurs had yet to make his debut for the club, leaving his teammates, coaches, and fans mourning the loss of a talented player whose career was tragically cut short.
